The seafarer villages of the diano gulf invite you to discover the apennine villages in the Impero and Arroscia Valleys with bell towers on the summits, stone houses and cobbled alleys.

From Imperia-Oneglia we enter the Impero Valley and  discover Pontedassio hidden among the olive groves. This village got its name from the disappearance of a wooden plank bridge. At Chiusavecchia, the Parish Church of San Biagio has a bell tower with an "onion" roof. The holiday of San Biagio is celebrated on 3rd February.
We continue through the scenic greenery along the convenient state highway and reach Pieve di Teco the main town of the Arroscia Valley. Founded in 1234 at the intersection of roads that led to Piedmont, it was an important business centre. Below the beautiful porticoes, that have remained intact, there is still a large number of shops. The former Convent of the Augustinians has a large fifteenth-century cloister with 24 pillars. The massive Collegiate Church of St. John the Baptist displays paintings and wooden sculptures by Maragliano. A procession of children with dolls takes place on 20th January, to celebrate the holiday of San Sebastiano.
We continue along the road that winds among woods and mountain ridges up to Pornassio, with its Castle dating back to the 1400s, in a marvellously strategic position. Pornassio is where the famous Ormeasco is made, a red wine obtained from grapes of which at least 95% are from the Dolcetto vine. The grape and wine festival is held on the first Sunday in October.
We continue toward Colle di Nava where, in a scenic landscape of meadows and woods, we find three massive Fortifications from the end of the 1800s. Going down again and, after passing Pieve di Teco, about ten km later we take another road to Cesio and San Bartolomeo al Mare. On the road we come to Torria where we are treated to a charming panorama with a view from the sea all the way to the Ligurian Alps. The Parish Church of St. Martin has an eighteenth-century bell tower with a bulb-like pinnacle.
Immersed in the olive groves, here is Chiusanico, with its oil presses and the Parish Church of St. Steven. We return along State Highway 28 and at Pontedassio turn left toward Diano Arentino. The road climbs among the dense olive groves on the hill. Watch out for the curves and the view.
Passing Diano Arentino, whose Parish Church conserves a sixteenth-century polyptych, all of a sudden we begin our descent toward the sea. Here is Diano Castello, a charming medieval village with a stupendous view. Ruins of the old walls, frescoes from the 1400s in the Oratory of St.John the Baptist, the Parish Church with a Cross by Maragliano, are some of the eight stopping points recommended by the IAT office. After a curve and up pops the sea while finding ourselves immediately surrounded by the Mediterranean maquis.
Once arriving in Diano Marina, we enjoy the beauty of its fascinating gulf and towns, each one more beautiful than the next one. We begin from San Bartolomeo al Mare that offers us a pleasant stay enlivened by bowls and tennis, strolls, concerts and night spots.
A final stop inland, among the olive groves, at the small village of Villa Faraldi  with its seventeenth-century Bell Tower and the lively Theatre Festival. And then to Cervo with its architectural wonders of the medieval village and the history linked to the coral. Alas, our visit to the Riviera dei Fiori unfortunately has come to an end. Yet, our hearts and eyes will always recall its amazing colours and delicious flavours.
