Not far from the shoreline there is Diano Castello, the ancient residence of the marquises of Clavesana, undoubtedly one of the towns of the Riviera dei Fiori with the richest historical and architectural works. It was built in a strategic location and enriched with churches and palaces that create a magic and ancient atmosphere; it would be worth visiting its Romanesque church of the Assunta and San Giovanni and the imposing baroque parish church of San Nicola, with its frontal turned to the sea, a reference point for those who arrive from the coast. During the summer, the streets and alleys of the ancient nucleus are crowded by figurants in costumes for the historical parade, that strongly underlines the beauty of the town. On the hills around Diano Castello olive groves and vineyards thrive. The vintage white wine Vermentino is produced here, which is just the ideal one to savor all fish courses. |
